Ian is one of the founding partners of KHL and has more than 40 years of experience. 

His practice area is corporate and commercial litigation, with additional expertise in insolvency, business rescue and restructuring law. He is also an admitted notary and conveyancer.

He has represented clients in matters before the Constitutional Court, Supreme Court of Appeal and various South African Superior Courts. He also has extensive experience in resolving disputes by way of arbitration and mediation. 

Ian has been recognised by Best Lawyers for litigation for many years. He received the Global Law Experts Award in 2020 and was endorsed as a recommended lawyer in restructuring and insolvency by PLC Which Lawyer.  He has also been cited as market leading professional and insolvency expert by Legal 500. Since October 2025, Ian has served as a consultant to KHL.
